BrainStation Capstone

In 2024, I completed a diploma in Web Development at BrainStation. Although I had been teaching myself web development for a long time, and even had work experience, I still felt like the gaps in my knowledge were holding me back.

When I had the good fortune of winning a scholarship for the BrainStation course, I knew this was my opportunity to master the skills that had been eluding me. These are some of the projects that I built for the course.

Byte-Sized Medieval Paleography

My final project for the BrainStation diploma was a game that teaches you how to read medieval handwriting.

This was an idea I'd wanted to make for a very long time, and a resource I wish existed when I was teaching university students to read old handwriting.

Tech stack:

  • Front end: React, HTML, SASS
  • Back end: Express, Node
  • Database: MySQL

If you want to try it out, here's the live demo.

WordPress Sites

Between 2021 and 2023, I customized WordPress sites for businesses while working at a digital marketing agency.

I enjoyed learning more about the clients' needs and creating websites that matched their visions.

This experience eventually led me to enroll in a web development diploma course so I could master the skills to build even more complex websites.

Auxilium Mortgage Corporation

Auxilium Mortgage needed a modern, responsive website to showcase their award-winning team and positive reviews.

The client chose a theme, which I customized by installing plugins to display their reviews and to create staff profiles.

These features highlight their achievements and make them more approachable to potential customers.

I designed page layouts, styled add-ons, configured plugins, and migrated the content from their old site to their new one.

After the final review, I trained the client to use the site and all its new features.

On this project, I used:

  • WordPress
  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • CSS

Big Bang Communications

As a PR and communications company, Big Bang needed a new website to feature their output.

I designed and developed a page to list the client's publications, as well as the layout for pages showcasing examples of their work.

I also set up an essential integration between the site and the client's email marketing system. This helps the client generate new business through the website.

On this project, I used:

  • WordPress
  • PHP
  • HTML
  • CSS

LoanBox Mortgage Brokers

LoanBox wanted an updated website to feature their client testimonials, mortgage calculators, and thought leadership.

The most challenging parts of the project were to integrate complex forms and mortgage calculators into the site and style them to match the theme.

These features are crucial because they help people understand how LoanBox can help them and make it easy to get in touch.

I also designed page layouts and migrated the content of the old site to the new one. I prevented negative SEO impacts by preserving links, adding redirects, and using semantic HTML.

On this project, I used:

  • WordPress
  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • CSS

Data Visualization with D3.js

In 2021, I decided to expand my JavaScript knowledge by completing the freeCodeCamp certificate in data visualization. Here are some examples of what I can do with D3.
